Matt Black – AV tests

Posted in animation, audio visual mix, documentary, music with tags , , on November 23, 2011 by 3nipples

Matt Black,  one half of the legendary Coldcut as well as one of Ninja Tunes co-founders and still one of their head-honchos, is a major lover of audio/visual technology. Black is one of the inventors of the VJamm software used in the Coldcut live shows and has been an innovator of the whole av scene. here are a couple of things that caught my attention on Black’s YouTube channel allgoodmatt

this first video was made using Memos Amoeba QC patch, adapted for realtime midi control in VDMX with audio from Ableton. using midi to simultaneously control video and audio synths makes an explicit AV connection

next up is a midi controlled AV synth with AV echo/feedback effects using Quartz composer and vdmx , with Ableton doing sound

and lastly, Matt Black and Paul Smiles give a quick demo of their work in progress, an AudioVisual marimba built using Ableton, Processing, and an AkaiMPD24

DJ Cheeba has really out done himself with his new a/v mix,  and this time he’s even incorporated himself into proceedings in the form of live footage and some specially made green screen stuff. there’s music from as eclectic a selection as fans can expect; old blues, spanking beats, balls out pop, funk and beyond. and as for the visuals, well they come from just about everywhere too

the art of the mixtape just took another leap forward and there’s no looking back

should you want to listen to and/or download just the audio track (it’s free), then you can do that right here

DJ Cheeba posted a photo on his Facebook page, of a label designed for him by DocVek (left), which i commented on, saying, simply, “beautiful

Cheeba was kind enough to point me in the direction of more work by DocVek (aka Keiran Sandal from Maidenhead, UK), and i felt compelled to share some of that work. here are a few favourites, plus a link to his online gallery

also, to watch Cheeba’s superb Revenge Of The Nerd audio/visual mix, go to the bottom of this post, then sit back and enjoy over an hours worth of treats for the ears and eyes

click on the pics to make them embiggen (where did i hear that word? ’tis silly and made up. i like it)

“This is part of an illustration i finished recently for a flyer in Bristol, UK. Solid Steel feat Dj Kentaro”

“My old friend Dj Cheeba (Solid Steel/Ninja Tune) was given a Rane TTM 57SL (a top turntablist mixer) by Rane itself. I got asked if I wanted to design the faceplate for the mixer, which included adding typefaces, illustrations, the whole shabang . . .”

“double page illustration i made for Computer Arts Projects, the article is about paper stock, which is why there are many references to ‘paper’ within”

“A street scene for a poster”

“Ninja Tune/Solid Steel AV showcase”

check out more of DocVeks stuff here docvek.co.uk

and now, as promised, here is DJ Cheeba’s a/v mix Revenge Of The Nerd (i’ve posted once here before but what the hell)

and here’s a link to Cheeba’s website where you’ll find plenty to nose through djcheeba.com

Charade – Demix of the 60s Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant spy thriller

Posted in audio visual mix, film/dvd, music with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on July 14, 2011 by 3nipples

here’s a cheeky little something from a few years ago that i stumbled into recently. it’s a ‘Demix’ of the 1960′s Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant spy thriller, Charade. it was shown at London’s Institute of Contemporary Art, NFT & The Raindance Film Fest

the music is by Si Begg, who’s recorded under various pseudonyms including Cabbageboy. in that guise he made the fantastic Rhythm & Blues Angus Steakhouse, which contains a great vocal sample from the painter David Hockney. i’ve uploaded it to Soundcloud and stuck it at the bottom of this post for you incredibly lucky people
