Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues

Helplessness Blues is the upcoming, second album by Seattle-based folk band Fleet Foxes.  it’s baroque folk even, rustic perhaps . . .

it’s a record that should certainly satisfy fans of their first, self titled album from 2008. i for one, have had it on repeat for much of this evening. Robin Pecknold, the groups singer, guitarist and songwriter has said he wanted this album to be, “less upbeat and more groove-based“, and on the use of 12-string guitar, “That will be the primary sonic distancing from the last record“.

also, despite  being written over the past couple of years this album was recorded rather quickly. vocals in one take, flaws included. a spontaneity that brings an energy that could easily be lost otherwise i guess. whatever the process this is an accomplished album that follows on easily from their first

Helplessness Blues by Fleet Foxes will be released on May 3rd on Sub Pop Records

for a reminder of their earlier work here’s the now classic White Winter Hymnal from their debut album
