DJ Food – Solid Steel/Search Engine interview

Posted in art, books, free download, music, podcast, radio with tags , , , , , on January 20, 2012 by Nabil

just ahead of the release of his new album, The Search Engine, DJ Food (a solo Strictly Kev this time round) has been interviewed for Solid Steel Radio to give some insights into the making of his album (which you can hear in the background), the collaborators involved (The The’s Matt Johnson, J.G. ‘Foetus’ Thirlwell, 2econd Class Citizen, DK and Natural Self) and the artwork created by Henry Flint and Strictly Kev himself. he also discusses his own work as a designer (possibly his most famous piece being the iconic Ninja Tune logo) and you can hear a few of the tracks that have influenced him over the years which range from Adam & the Ants to Boards of Canada

also, the limited CD album itself (i received mine this morning having ordered early but it’ll be generally available from Monday) is a truly beautifully packaged item. a gorgeous, full colour, 48 page comic sized booklet packed with artwork, photos and more to hold the disc itself and inside that you’ll find an extra tack housed on a truly scrumptious flexi disc (you may well need to be over 40 to know what one of those is). the loveliest piece of plastic i’ve seen in a long time, a clear 7″ single with a high shine silver ‘label’ on the front side that is gold on the reverse. and you can buy that right here

also, check out this exhibition in London if you can

Bluefire presents: The Prodigy Mastermix

Posted in free download, music, podcast with tags , , on January 3, 2012 by Nabil

i wasn’t sure what to start the year off with here on my humble little blog and then i stumbled into this on Facebook, posted by Ninjamixdump (a great place to find odds and sods). it’s a 145 minute mix (yep that’s right, it’s well over 2 hours long) that chronicles the musical talents of a Mr Liam Howlett, better known as The Prodigy. it contains over 50 Prodigy originals and remixes. the mix has three section that are defined by tempo and are titled as Part 1: The Poison, Part 2: The Rhythm and Part 3: The Energy. click here to get it

here are a couple of videos. firstly No Good (Start the Dance) from Music for the Jilted Generation, the album that really made me sit up and pay attention to The Prodigy in 1994, and then Breathe from the 1997 album The Fat of the Land

DJ Cheeba: Live (superb audio/visual mix)

Posted in audio visual mix, dj mix, free download, music, podcast with tags , , , on November 12, 2011 by Nabil

DJ Cheeba has really out done himself with his new a/v mix,  and this time he’s even incorporated himself into proceedings in the form of live footage and some specially made green screen stuff. there’s music from as eclectic a selection as fans can expect; old blues, spanking beats, balls out pop, funk and beyond. and as for the visuals, well they come from just about everywhere too

the art of the mixtape just took another leap forward and there’s no looking back

should you want to listen to and/or download just the audio track (it’s free), then you can do that right here
